Modern Building Blocks are a set of project cards with instructions to make 48 different quilt blocks in 6 different sizes. The block sizes range from 6" blocks to a super-size 36" block. Put together they make a different type of sampler quilt, much more random and unexpected. The quilt uses only solid color fabrics, and I love it. My fabric choices are not at all modern; they are rustic and primitive. I am using Holiday Medley, a fabric line from 2012, for several reasons.
No problem...I am having a great time. Since all the block sizes are sized in multiples of six, they are easily changed. I am omitting some and making some more than once. I am substituting some other blocks because...I like them. Here are some of the pieces laid out. I do not have a design wall like some lucky quilters... but I have an entire design bedroom! (daughter's room, yes, I hope to change that green some day...) Here you can tell that the blocks range in sizes, and I have used most of my available space in this room! Some of my blocks you can see have white sticky tags... to help me keep things straight and in the right place. Who knows what this mess will become...
Spiced Chai is home, and the binding is finished. When I asked Tammy to quilt waves on my Spiced Chai tea leaves, I had misgivings. Once a quilt is quilted, it's done, and there's no going back. I didn't want to mess up on this one. Why would I worry?! Tammy is the best quilter ever; I couldn't be happier. Spiced Chai
